Deputy President William Ruto's remarks on President Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement continues to elicit sharp reactions from among the politicians.
In Nyeri on Tuesday, Dr Ruto insisted that Uhuru has no intentions to continue clinging to power when his term ends.
There have been calls to have Uhuru staying on as Prime Minister, a post that will be created by the Building Bridges Initiative.
ODM deputy treasurer Ogla Karani now wants Ruto to jointly retire with Uhuru given that they were elected as a pair.
"If indeed Uhuru must go home in 2022 as his deputy asserts, so should he (Ruto) also prepare to go home in 2020 because the duo; the President and the Deputy contested as one unit ‘the presidency’ why is he aggressively speak for Uhuru to go home excluding himself yet they are 1?" she wondered.
Ruto blamed unnamed people of pushing an agenda by claiming that President Uhuru Kenyatta should not retire.
“It is brokers and political merchants who are peddling that rumour across the country,” he noted according to the Star.
“We are progressives. President Kenyatta has a rich legacy which cannot be stained by the push for constitutional changes.”
