Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Wednesday passed a motion to name a major street in Eldoret after Eliud Kipchoge.
According to the motion mover nominated MCA Leah Mallot, this will be a way of honoring him for bringing fame to this country by setting a new marathon record.
“Eliud Kipchoge as one of the World Marathon Champions is a world a world Champion where he broke the World record of running under two hours, I believe as Uasin Gishu being the home of Eliud Kipchoge will benefit if the streets will be named after him,” said Mallot.
Mallot is a veteran international athlete.
“I believe if one of the streets in Eldoret town is named after Eliud Kipchoge he will be remembered forever because he has made the country proud,” added the nominated MCA.
She, however, called on the Department of Education and Sports to take it seriously and implement the motion to the later since Kipchoge is one of their own though he comes from Nandi County by resides in Uasin Gishu.
Mallot also congratulated other athletes for performing well in just ended world championships in Doha and Chicago Marathon winner Gladys Kosgei who broke Women World marathon record.
Deputy speaker Hosea Lamai who presided over the motion called on the executive to implement decision as a move to honor Eliud Kipchoge.
