Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has claimed that it played a key role in banning of Senator Amos Wako from travelling to US.
State Department on Monday banned the former Attorney General for the second time from travelling to US, linking him to 'significant corruption'.
“Today the Department designates former Kenyan Attorney General Amos Sitswila Wako due to his involvement in significant corruption,” a statement from the US State Department said.
On Tuesday, EACC chairman Eliud Wabukala said the Commission shared corruption details about the former AG, which helped the US to make the decision.
Rev Wabukhala said the Commission will continue working with foreign countries to have those linked to mega graft cases blocked from travelling.
“We have been collaborating with the US and other foreign missions working on this. Expect more bans soon,” he said.
It is believed the ban is in relation to the Anglo Leasing scandal, which involved dodgy security sector deals that saw the country lose billions of shillings, much of it stashed abroad.
US Secretary to the State Mike Pompeo said the government's action sends a strong signal that it is a valuable partner in Kenya’s fight against corruption.
“Economic prosperity for all Kenyans is only possible by defeating the scourge of corruption, which also requires a functional, fair and transparent criminal justice system. The United States will continue to stand with Kenyans as they strive to curb and punish corruption in Kenya.”
US Ambassador Kyle McCarter had previously insisted that Washington DC will ensure all graft suspects are successfully prosecuted in Kenya.
