Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i should go slow on his intensified campaigns aiming at uniting Abagusii community, ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire has said.
For the last few months, a host of politicians from Kisii and Nyamira have been rallying behind the minister, arguing that he's fit to lead the country.
Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Governor John Nyagarama have been leading other local leaders in drumming support for Matiang'i, who was elevated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January to chair cabinet committee.
Others who have been pushing for Matiang'i's candidature are Governor James Ongwae, Sam Ongeri and Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.
But Timothy Bosire, who served Kitutu Masaba in last parliament, on Tuesday said the cabinet secretary is new in politics and should first focus on delivering.
"I just hear people saying that he's contesting though I am yet to hear personally from him. Let him go slow and concentrate on service delivery first.
"He's pretty new to the game and he should first take time to observe. That is my advise. Already, he's getting stiff competition from some other group allied to DP William Ruto," he said.
While Bosire is opposed to early campaigns, he however said the competition between Pro-Matiang'i and Ruto's teams in Gusii was welcome, adding that both should now concentrate on developing the region.
However, he said when the right time comes, Orange Democratic Movement party will make pronouncements on 2022. He insisted that ODM remains the most popular party in the region.
