Nakuru county governor Lee Kinyanjui has ordered for the ban of sale of any liquor or illicit brews in all matatu terminus.
Kinyanjui who spoke after paying a visit to the Mashambani Bus terminus on Wednesday morning said this will help eradicate the menace of rowdy matatu operations and infiltration of criminal gangs.
According to the county boss, the operation of such business greatly affects the concentration of the matatu operators to carefully man their vehicles and could easily cause accidents.
He said that they will put stringent measures to flush out some criminal elements that have been reported to be mugging the passengers and other local people within the terminus.
“We have stalls at this bus terminus whose work is to sell illicit brew and you find some drivers also engaging gin such yet they have journey to Nyeri or Eldoret. We will not allow such in all our stages be it Olenguruone or Molo.Drivers entrusted with ferrying passengers should be sober” said Kinyanjui.
The Governor was speaking at Mashambani Stage, Nakuru town, where he interacted with traders and matatu operators.He noted that small scale traders play a pivotal role in the economic development of the County.
The Governor assured them that the County Government will continue to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through various policies.
