Aukot and his party have since presented a total of 1.4 million signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as part of the push, which are under verification.

Speaking on Monday, he expressed confidence that the signatures will be approved and the bill will as well be approved by the majority of the county assemblies as per the law.

And though he also predicted the same in the Senate, he noted that he might have it hard cruising past the National Assembly, in a bill that seeks to reduce parliamentary slots.

He blamed the same on the alleged selfishness among Members of Parliament, adding that most are corrupt and cannot stand their positions being reduced.

"Nina uhakika maseneta watapitisha, labda wabunge, sababu ya ulafi na ufisadi wao watakataa. (I am sure senators will approve it. Maybe members of the National Assembly, due to their selfishness and corruption, will reject it)," he said.

He made the remarks on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen, where he added that Kenyans will not need to go to a referendum for the changes to be realized.

"Hatuhitaji kuwekelea wakenya referendum. Ikishapitishwa kitakachobaki ni rais kuweka kidole (We don't need to subject Kenyans to a referendum, once passed, the only remaining thing will be the president to sign it into law)," he added.

The Punguza Mizigo push seeks to loosen the wage bill by reducing representative positions.
