Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has weighed in on the cases of police harassment that have triggered a firestorm on social media platforms.
Speaking on Saturday at the Mama Ngina Waterfront during the Mombasa chapter Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting, Sakaja appealed to the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai to rein in on his officers.
He urged law enforcement officers to go easy on the young people as continued harassment could result in a blow back.
"As the deputy chairman of the security committee, I asking the inspector general to tell your officers to go easy on these young people. If we continue pushing the youths these country will not stand. (Mimi kama deputy chairman ya kamati ya security nasema kweli inspector general tell your officers to go easy on these young people. Tukisukma vijana kwa ukuta hii Kenya haitasimama)," Sakaja said.
Sakaja's intervention comes in the wake of the arrest of a blogger, for allegedly inciting violence against a uniformed officer.
The arrest of Mildred Owiso has ignited a spirited debate on police harassment.
Police officers were also subjected to blistering criticism over their response to the protests in Mwiki, where a university student is said to have lost his life.
