The erection of the footbridge had brought a traffic snarl-up that forced stranded motorists to take to social media and air their grievances to KeNHA. Using Twitter and popular handle  @Ma3Route, the motorists were able to get the attention of KeNHA who offered an apology although blaming it on contractors.

“KeNHA takes this opportunity to apologize and stand with Kenyans who were this morning been inconvenienced by our contractors’ poor traffic management at Weitethie,” said KeNHA in a statement.

Though KeNHA had earlier given notice of partial closure of the section, motorists seem to have been caught unaware.

“KeNHA, in pursuant to Traffic Act Cap. 403 sec.71, wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika SuperHighway at Weitethie will be closed from Sunday, December 22 to Tuesday, December 24,” KeNHA said.

Thika Superhighway has been experiencing traffic congestion for some time now and this is expected to be the norm this festive season given many motorists heading to Central part of Kenya will be plying this route.
