Speaking moments after meeting the former Prime Minister at his Capitol Hill office on Wednesday, Mutua said that Raila deserves respect because he has played an immense role in Kenya's transformation since he entered the political arena.

He also said that he respects Mama Ida Odinga because she has stood with the opposition leader during good and tough times in his career.

Mutua also said that he is proud to associate with the African Special envoy because of the way he handles issues.

“I have a lot of respect for him and his wife Mama Ida. His late son Fidel (RIP) was my friend and I keep in touch with his children. When people have asked me what I think of Raila Odinga, I have always told them that I admire him as a person and leader even though we have been in different political persuasions," he stated.

"I believe this is what Kenya needs - unity in diversity - where leaders respect each other’s position, opinions and ideologies even when in different political formations,” he said in part.

Mutua also said that he told Raila about his presidential ambition, adding that he is confident the opposition leader will stand with him as he seeks to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
