Details have emerged on the reasons why Kiambu Members of Parliament were absent at President Uhuru Kenyatta's function in Mang'u, Gatundu North in Kiambu county on Wednesday.

The function was only attended by area MP Wanjiku Kibe, with all area MPs, including area Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Uhuru's MP in Gatundu South Moses Kuria being a no show.

Also absent was Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah and Simon Kang'ara of Ruiru, all of whom are allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who appears to have fallen out with Uhuru.

Kibe said that the entire group was invited but excused themselves, citing the short notice. However, this contradicts Kuria's claims, who said on Thursday that he was not invited to the function.

"They gave their apologies. The notice was short and the president only confirmed his visit around 6 pm on Tuesday,” she told the People Daily on Thursday.

But this seems like a well-planned plot by Ruto's Mt Kenya allies to demean Uhuru, who has been not been happy with them over allegations of engaging in early campaigns.

It also comes as a realization to last week's meeting at the Mountain Breeze Hotel in Embu, where the group, majority of area lawmakers, threatened boycott Uhuru's functions.

Kibe in his part said that the president, who was opening the dispensary at the St. Francis Mangu Catholic Church on the Cardinal John Njue's invitation had no control over the program.

She noted that the president is therefore not to blame for the strict program which saw not even a single politician, apart from the president, even wave at the crowd.

“The president was also taken aback when the program changed,” she said.

Uhuru used the function to once again bash the politicians, taking issue with their push to have the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) implemented through the parliament.

He personally wants the proposal, which was launched on Wednesday last week, to be taken to Kenyans before they can decide its fate.
