Ms Arunga, a lawyer also by training, was given a 10-month parole sentence, which now allows her to rebuild her life after over 6 years of court case.

And Dr Khalwale termed Arunga's husband Quincy Timberlake as a conman who misled her, adding that the government should deal firmly with such people.

"I congratulate Australian judges who sentenced our young Esther Arunga to 10 months in jail for which she was paroled. She was a victim of the sweet talking conman called Timberlake who killed her son. Government must deal with the many other Timberlakes on the prowl in Kenya," he wrote.

Arunga on Monday confessed that she lied about the death of her son Sinclair Timberlake in a bid to protect Timberlake who is accused of killing him.

In his ruling on Thursday, Justice Burns is quoted by the Australian Associated Press as saying that he was sympathetic to her situation when she spoke to the police investigating her son's death.

"You must be taken to have been in shock at the death of your son, at the times when you were interviewed... and further to be grieving at your loss," he said.

He concluded that Ms Arunga's cultural beliefs played a factor and she had suffered a "great deal" during the five years since.

"You went from being a wife and a mother, who was at that time nursing a six-month-old baby, and who was otherwise trying to establish your young family in a new country, to losing your son, husband and daughters," he said
