The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has announced that it will carry out a public inquiry in the coastal region.

In a tweet on Sunday, the ODDP said that the inquiry will focus on police excesses, enforced disappearances and human rights violations.

HAKI Africa, a human rights organisation based in the coast, will collaborate with DPP Noordin Haji's office in the inquiry.

Other law enforcement agencies including the National Police Service, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will also be involved in the public inquiry.

"Coast Region, here we come! ODPP in collaboration with HAKI Africa, National Police Service, IPOA, DCI & other agencies are this week conducting public inquiries on police excesses, enforced disappearances & human rights violations, " the ODPP tweet read.

The announcement of the public inquiry to the people of the coastal region who have long accused the police of excesses ranging from human rights violations to extrajudicial killings.

A number of families in the region have decried the disappearances of their loved ones who have been accused of engaging in terrorism.

Given that the inquiry will be public, residents and local leaders to make their submissions to members of the inquiry.
