Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has implored Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, to consider reversing an order directing all bars to be closed down over the weekend to allow people participate in the national census.
In a Facebook post, Omanga noted that closing the entertainment joints for two days will lead to massive loses.
"The directive by CS Dr Matiang'i ordering closure of all bars and clubs across the country for two days - being Saturday and Sunday; for purposes of census is unwarranted, unjustifiable and punitive to business people and to lovers and admirers of booze.
"To keep these favourite joints under lock and key means businesses will harvest massive losses and therefore they'll have no cash to pay their employees, suppliers and landlords. On behalf of stakeholders in this critical sector, I implore CS Matiangi to consider retracting his orders for the sake of posterity. In any case, people can be counted anywhere they're, anytime." she noted
Speaking in Embu on Wednesday, Matiang'i said all bars should be closed by 5 pm to allow people get home on time for the national exercise.
"We are going to going close all our social places especially the bars at 5pm to give you an hour to be home before the enumerators arrive at 6pm so that they can find you at home,” Matiang'i said.
