Renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, the current World marathon record holder, left the country on Monday night in a private jet to Viena, Austria.
Accompanied by his coach Patrick Sang, and some of his teammates (who will also act as his pacemakers), Eliud is set to take part in the INEOS 1:59 challenge.
However, the exact date for the event is yet to be decided, as the event organisers are still studying the best day and time that will have favorable weather conditions for Kipchoge.
This is a historic event for the marathoner as he will be the first man in the World to take part in the inaugural sub-two-hour marathon.
For Kipchoge, this will mean running against time, he will be running to beat the record he set back in 2018.
Viena was picked as the best place for the competition due to its favorable weather conditions in October.
“The unique nature of this extraordinary event means we are not in a position where we can confirm the date or the start time of the Challenge until we can be absolutely certain the weather conditions are suitable” said the organisers as quoted by Citizen Digital.
