The gut contains important bacteria that are crucial for digestion. Therefore, there are certain foods you should avoid in order to keep your gut healthy;

1. Processed and refined foods

Processed and refined foods are typically loaded with additives and preservatives that are generally unhealthy for the gut in that they might kill important gut flora. 

These foods also lack gut-friendly fibre hence can cause digestion troubles. Avoiding such foods will keep your belly healthy and untroubled. 

2. Deep fried foods

Deep fried foods are hard for the gut to digest. Since these foods can be hard to avoid, find a way of minimizing their intake. 

The foods are hard to digest because they contain saturated fats which may further irritate the stomach causing diarrhoea, gas and stomach pain. They might as well promote growth of harmful gut bacteria. 

3. Too much alcohol

Alcohol is bad for general health. For the gut, alcohol might be detrimental to the healthy bacteria present. 

Too much alcohol might affect your stomach's bacterial microbiome which might cause what is called alcohol-induced tissue injury of the stomach and even liver disease. Liver is crucial for food digestion in the stomach.
