Renowned scholar and former presidential candidate Professor James Ole Kiyiapi has weighed in on the Mashujaa Day speech that was delivered by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a tweet on Sunday, moments after the head of state's speech, the former Moi University don said that the speech was powerful as it was well-written.
Prof Kiyiapi made note of the fact that the address recognised Kenyans from all walks of life and different spheres of human endeavour.
He said that the speech was a rallying call to Kenyans.
"I have to say President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech in today's MASHUJAA DAY is well written, powerful, and CELEBRATES Kenyans across all walks of life, RECOGNIZES their contribution to this country. A rallying call. YES, because ALL of us are heroes / heroines in small /big ways, " the former presidential candidate's tweet read.
The President showered praises on Kenyans who were working in different sectors of the economy, from doctors to athletes, from actors to journalists, to make Kenya an even better country.
High-ranking government officials attended the event.
Also among the high profile attendees was veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
The culmination of the celebrations was the conferment of the Order of the Elder of the Golden Heart on world record breaking marathoner Eliud Kipchoge.
