The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already cleared more than ten candidates for the Kibra Parliamentary seat ahead of the by-election deadline.
The commission had given the candidates until the end of today’s business hours to present their nominations to its offices in preparation to take part in the exercise.
The ten candidates who have been cleared are among the 26 who reportedly expressed their interest in the contest to succeed the late Ken Okoth.
Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butich is among the candidates who have been cleared to throw their hat in the ring.
Butich has since appealed to all candidates as well as voters to remain peaceful during and after the exercise is concluded.
“We are now ready to hit the ground for our campaign and I want to say that it will not be business as usual in Kibra. It will be new dawn; things are about to change, and I want to call on Kibra residents to give me a chance to deliver to them and change the face of Kibra. I ask my competitors to do their campaigns in the most peaceful manner and not cause mayhem at all,” Butich said.
Other candidates who have been given a green light to contest for the position are Independent candidates Felix Anditi and Fridah Kerubo.
The duo has promised to transform the lives of the residents if elected into the office when that time comes. Kerubo happens to be the only woman cleared to contest for the post.
She is now banking on women to vote for her as she seeks to rise to power.
Jubilee candidate MacDonald Mariga to present his nomination by tomorrow. ODM Imran Okoth is also yet to be cleared by the commission.
