Popular Kenyan gospel musician Willy Paul has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI ) to look into the complaints launched by Kenyan musicians against the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) over poor payments.
The 'Shado Mado' singer through an Instagram post on Wednesday claimed they had tried fighting from within to create change but failed.
He further cited that the wrangles at the organisation are what led to the resignation of Kenyan rapper Nonini from the directorship of the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK).
Willy Paul also pledged to join in the fight for accountability at MCSK.
"KENYAN MUSICIANS NEED UR HELP DCI!!! We tried fighting this thing from within. Nonini resigned from Directorship at PRISK juu watu lazima wakule na hawataki 'new age solutions' like digital monitoring. No accountability, transparency and blatant disregard of the law is the order of the day. Joint collection has been a fight," he wrote on Instagram.
MCSK, on the other hand, defended itself explaining that the royalties paid out had been collected for two months and were distributed equally among the members.
"Please be informed that we paid all artists for the 2 months we collected royalties being a PPP distribution. This doesn't include broadcasters. We are not thieves! Get the correct information," a tweet from MCSK read.
