Borabu MP Ben Momanyi believes that ODM leader Raila Odinga a key player to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i's quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Dr Matiang'i is yet to declare his intentions but has been assembling politicians especially from his backyard in that is viewed as strategy to venture into politics.
Recently, Matiang'i managed to bring on board Mr Momanyi, Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi and Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi.
Last Friday at a funeral in Nyanturago, Mr Momanyi asked Odinga to consider backing Matiang'i in 2022, adding that such pronouncement will automatically deliver victory.
"We have assessed Dr Matiang'i and I believe he's competent to take over. He has streamlined many departments and he has shown ability.
"Because I am sure that you're key in this process, just say Matiang'i Tosha and all will be okay. We shall finish business very early in the morning," he said.
But Mr Odinga asked Gusii politicians to go slow on the matter, adding that the team lead by Dr William Ruto may take advantage of such early campaigns.
"Matiang'i is my son and I know what I am supposed to do. Let us relax and fix a few issues first. Allow Dr Matiang'i to serve the people. He sits in cabinet," he said.
Should Matiang'i join presidential race, he will be the third member of Abagusii community to do so after George Anyona of Kitutu Masaba and Mzee Simeon Nyachae.
