17 passengers were on Thursday evening seriously injured following a road accident that occurred along the Keroka – Kisii road.
Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli confirmed the accident and said the matatu was headed to Kisii town from Keroka Township.
“The matatu was carrying 6 men, 8 women and 3 children when the accident occurred. The matatu driver lost control and veered off the road leading to the accident,” said the OCPD.
He said the driver sustained serious head injuries.
“The driver was injured among all the passengers who were on board. Motorists plying the Keroka –Kisii route should be careful especially during this rainy season to avoid unnecessary accidents,” he said.
Nguli added that the accident victims were rushed to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital for treatment.
The OCPD assured that the government will place road signs along the road so that drivers can be able to drive safely on the road because the current road signs are not visible enough for motorists to see.
