The body of a 17 year old boy has been retrieved from Marubi dam in Machakos County after a two day exercise carried out by Machakos emergency services department.
The boy has been identified as a student at the Kenya Israel Campus in the Mechanic and Tailoring department.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, Festus Kitongu the assistant director of Machakos Emergency services has cited that the young man had gone swimming on Saturday at around 4pm in the dam when he lost control and drowned.
“Many young boys visit this area in the evening to swim which is very dangerous because of the mad at the bottom of the dam,” said Kitongu
“We believe the young man had been swimming as his clothes were on the side shore,” he added.
Kitongu further explained that the residents had alerted the emergency officers immediately they noticed the clothes and the missing person.
“The residents informed our officers and we responded immediately and launched a search few minutes later after 4pm but we were dint find the body even on Sunday until today at around 10a.m,” he said.
The body has been taken to Machakos Level-5 Hospital mortuary as the police officers from Machakos police station have launched an investigation in the incident.
