Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome has joined the list of politicians disputing the 2019 census results which were released on Monday.
So far, politicians from Tharaka Nithi, Nyamira and Kisii counties have dismissed the findings, claiming that the numbers indicated in the results are lower than the actual case.
Wahome on Monday claimed that the numbers in three counties of Central Kenya are lower than should be the case, suspecting that someone interfered with them for political reasons.
She cited Muranga, which has a population of 1,056,640, saying that more than half the people in the county voted in 2017. She also suspects foul play in Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties.
She found it suspicious that the population seems to be decreasing, claiming that some people "have played around with figures in the Mt Kenya region in the hopes of changing the course of the 2022 General Election".
She made the remarks during the handing over of an office to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) built using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty.
She termed the results "shocking", saying that she expected something completely different.
“Kandara alone had over 72,000 presidential votes and the county has seven constituencies. We are all shocked that the results are not the way we expected them to be and clearly something has gone wrong," added the vocal lawmaker.
Nominated Member of County Assembly Diana Muthoni expressed similar sentiments, claiming that children are being born in the county daily, making the results questionable.
