Globally renowned athlete Eliud Kipchoge has been feted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who bestowed upon the marathoner the Order of the Elder of the Golden Heart.
The fete comes days after the world record holder became the first human being in the history of the marathon to run a sub 2 hour marathon.
He pulled off the feat a few days ago in Vienna, the capital city of Austria.
The bestowal of the Order of the Elder of the Golden Heart will come as a relief to a section of Kenyans who have long called for the state to recognise the athlete with an award or a state title.
Only Kenyans who have made great achievements are given the title by the president of the Republic of Kenya.
Eliud Kipchoge arrived in the port city of Mombasa on Saturday ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations, triggering speculation that he would be given state recognition.
As the president announced the recognition, Eliud Kipchoge was an embodiment of inscrutable humility.
The head of state said that the athlete had set an example to Kenyans, showing that integrity and hard work can yield and urged the rest of Kenyans to emulate the example set by Kipchoge.
"Eliud Kipchoge remains the Greatest Of All Our Time. We can achieve the very best as individuals and as a country collectively, " the president said.
