The Council of Governors (CoG) has rejected the government's latest offer of allocation to counties, terming it too little.
The central government on Tuesday increased the amount to Sh316 billion, up from the initial Sh310 proposal, a day after the governors held demonstrations in Nairobi.
National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale confirmed that same, saying that the proposal will be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday next week.
“Nothing has changed in the republished bill…I will table it next Tuesday,” said Duale as quoted by Mediamax.
But CoG Chair Wycliffe Oparanya says that the devolved units will not take anything less than Sh335 billion as had been proposed by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
Oparanya says that governors will not take part in discussing the new proposal and will instead let the Supreme Court make its declaration on the tussle.
“We choose to wait for the Supreme Court ruling on the matter,” he said on Tuesday.
The county bosses have argued that what is being given to them is not enough and might soon result in a crisis that could see a halt in operations in the devolved units.
They have teamed up with senators in the push.
