Secretary for Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi has been ordered to pay monthly upkeep of Sh20,000 by a Nairobi court.
This comes after a DNA test came positive on the child - now 5 months old - he reportedly sired last year.
The child's mother through her lawyer Enrica Dulo, now wants the court to compel him to give her a copy of his national ID.
“We want a copy of his national identity card so that his name can be included in the minor’s certificate of birth, and we will also be asking him to set up a trust for the minor because the baby girl is his only known child,” Dulo told the court.
Itumbi, according to court proceedings, is alleged to have deserted the mother of his child last year upon learning that she is pregnant.
He is said to have blocked communication with her and failed to offer any form of support.
“He ended the relationship sometime in August 2018 when the lady informed him that she was pregnant with his child. She successfully delivered a female child on June 14, this year,” Dulo stated in her application.
The two parties have been urged to settle the matter out of court. The girl's mother is asking for Sh50,000 monthly upkeep, medical cover and school fees once she starts schooling.
On the other hand, Itumbi will be allowed to see his daughter but the legal the mother will have the sole rights to live with her.
The case is set for mention on December 18, 2019, to give the two parties room for negotiations. In the event they fail to agree, the case will go for a full hearing in 2020.
