The Catholic Diocese of Muranga on Sunday banned politicians from attending its events, only hours after a church drama at a the Gitui Catholic church in Kiharu.
The church on has cancelled all events where politicians are invited in all its churches in the county, hours after Kiharu MP and his nominated counterpart clashed at a church function.
Bishop James Maria Wainaina, also in charge of the church's branches in the neighbouring Kirinyaga county, ordered all his clergy to keep politicians at bay until further notice.
He expressed his annoyance over the fight between Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and nominated MP Maina Kamanda who fought over who was to take charge of a church fundraiser.
"Am hurt over what has happened. I have started an investigation so that I can understand what happened and why” said the bishop.
The order was confirmed by one of the priests working under him who said that the move, he told them, was in line with upholding order in the churches.
"The bishop is annoyed over what happened at Gitui Church. The clergy has to obey the order for the dignity of the church," said the priest.
At the function, trouble ensued when Nyoro confronted Kamanda, opposing his intentions to introduce a host of MPs who attended the function from Nairobi.
He accused Kamanda of attempting to undermining him, resulting in a near fist clash, before police intervened, with each leader accusing the other of being the villain.
