The DP has for long been associated with the group, whose main aim was popularising then president Daniel Moi and his KANU team, during the 1992 general elections.

However, the former Nyayo era strongman on Wednesday said Ruto never played any role in YK92, and was not politically active at the time, but would spend his time at the KICC.

"William Ruto was never part of YK92, William Ruto was one of the young men who spent their time at KICC at the Youth and Women office with Julia Ojiambo," he said on Pointblank show on Wednesday night.

Jirongo said he never got to know the DP until 1993, when the group had been broken down.

He claimed the DP was introduced to him by politician Julia Ojiambo, and their first encounter was when the DP sought a contract to supply KANU t-shirts.

"I actually came to to know William Ruto properly after elections in 1993, we worked closely with Dr Julia Ojiambo and that is how I ended up knowing Ruto and specifically when he came to get some orders to supply t-shirts," he added.
