A number of politicians have accused the church of accepting graft money in the name of donations, a move which they argue is derailing the ongoing attempts to slay the corruption dragon.

Speaking on Monday, the MP from Kisumu County revealed that he has been making his donations through cheques and has never seen any problem so far.

"I have always done my donations through cheques and the cheques have never bounced," he said on NTV's AM Live show on Monday morning.

Speaking on the same forum, Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni said that true to the allegations, the church has become the money laundering machine for corruption proceeds.

He claimed that the same is no longer a secret, even to the body entrusted with the job of combating graft; the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

"Even the EACC knows that corruption money ends up in churches," said the senator.

The Catholic Church last week banned cash donations exceeding Sh50,000 in its churches.

On the other hand, Deputy President William Ruto, who had been appearing like the target of the anti-donations attacks, has insisted that he will not stop his church donations.
