The pro-handshake Embrace group on Friday took its peace and cohesion campaigns to Migori County in solidarity with President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2018 truce with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga.

However, only six women, among them Public Service Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia, were seen in the county, as a good number of them failed to attend the event due to the cancellation of their flight in Nairobi.

Kobia unveiled a number of government development initiatives in Migori and Awendo.

She then joined the women for a rally at the Migori Stadium, where she announced the government's commitment towards wiping out early pregnancy cases in the county.

“We have data on those dropping out of school and this will help us gauge correctly the problem. We have also proposed a policy to have them go back to school,” she said.

Others who attended the event are Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, area woman representative Pamela Odhiambo and Senator Emma Mbura (nominated).

Others are Judith Sijeny, Anne Kanyi and Rahab Wangui, both nominated.

Wanga said area residents are already ripping the fruits of the handshake, giving an example of the Kisumu Port. The vocal MP said that the nation is headed in the right direction.

“The handshake has brought the peace and stability we have yearned for for so long. We are now on a path to healing. If there is anyone opposed to that, they should tell Kenyans they want us to go to war and remain torn along the ethnic divide," she said.

It is worth noting that a section of Deputy President William Ruto's allies have claimed that Team Embrace is one of the groupings being used to fight him politically.

They have accused some top State officials of being part of the plot to crush Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
