Political analyst Herman Manyora has linked political leaders to massive theft of public funds, resulting in high levels of unhappiness among Kenyans.
Speaking on Friday, the University of Nairobi don said that Kenyans will only be happy with the money in their pockets, which he observed that is not happening now.
"Happiness will be there if people have a shilling in their pocket but that is not happening because of leaders who are stealing public funds," he said on NTV's AM Live.
The renowned commentator noted that the same people are a great challenge to the well being of the country on matters security and safety.
He accused the leading class of blaming Kenyans for their (leaders) tailored to secure the nation and leaving the responsibility of assuring security in their hands.
However, according to him, the responsibility lies squarely in the hands of the leaders as they are the ones with the needed resources and mandate to realize the same.
"When leaders fail to move the country forward you can not turn around and tell the citizens 'usalama inaanza na wewe' (security begins with you)The citizens pay taxes, they want you to employ police to protect them," he added.
