The Council of Governors (COG) is now pushing for the ‘Mashinani Initiative’ referendum to amend the constitution.
According to the Council of Governors (COG) Chairman Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, governors will neither support the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) nor Punguza Mizigo bill referendum calls.
“As governors, we are going to launch the ‘Mashinani Initiative’, we have been having several meetings to agree on the issues to take to wananchi for proposal for amendments of the constitution,” said the ODM Kakamega Governor.
He reiterated that the Initiative will address problems governors are facing.
Oparanya spoke at the University of Eldoret during the Annual Agri-Business Trade fair where he was the chief guest on Thursday.
“Today there was a Council of governors meeting that agreed on the amendments and on 18th September we will be announcing the launch date of the Mashinani initiative,” said the COG chairman.
Oparanya, however, said as governors they are not satisfied with the allocations since there proposal was sh 335 billion and was only given sh 316 billion and hoped during the supplementary budget funds will be channelled to counties.
The COG chair said the counties undertake crucial services such as health, therefore, funds should be sent to counties on time to prevent residents from suffering due to lack of services.
