Leaders from Garissa County have condemned an Al-Shabaab attack that left three teachers dead saying the government needs to do more to prevent terror attacks in the region.

Garissa Woman Representative Anab Subow Gure claimed that the government failed to act on intelligence reports provided.

Gure who was reacting after the Monday attack in Garissa said terror attacks in the county could have been prevented if the government acted on intelligence from the public.

“It’s time the government took security matters with the seriousness they deserve. The attacks in Diiso, Saretho and Kamuthe were all preceded by credible information and intelligence from the public but the county security teams did not act as required,” said Gure.

Three teachers were killed and one suffered serious injuries during the Monday attack at Kamuthe Boarding Primary School in Kamuthe area, Garissa County.

The militants also attacked and destroyed a Safaricom communication mast in the area during the 2 am incident.

Newly appointed North-Eastern Regional Co-ordinator Nicodemus Musyoki Ndalana urged residents and leaders to work closely with security agencies and share information in a bid to fight terrorism.

“These terrorists have declared war and we will respond. We will pursue them into their hiding places to ensure justice is served,” said Ndalana.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane said he will hold a meeting with all the stakeholders after the re-emergence of Al-Shabaab with an aim of improving security in Garissa.
