The President of the United States of America Donald Trump offered the much-anticipated confirmation that the Islamic State leader Abubakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a nighttime operation in northeastern Syria.
According to the American head of state, al-Baghdadi run away screaming and terrified into a tunnel as police dogs were in hot pursuit when it became apparent to him that he had been cornered by commandoes.
Not willing to surrender to the American commandoes, he triggered a suicide best that killed him alongside his children.
Mr Trump fielded questions from members of the press on Sunday, keen to emphasise his personal role in the operation.
He employed colourful language that some found to be dangerously inflammatory, saying that the Islamic State supremo met his death like a dog.
“The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, in total panic and dread, terrified of the American forces bearing down upon him,” Mr Trump said.
“He was a sick and depraved man, and now he’s gone. He died like a dog, he died like a coward, " the US president added.
The development is a triumph for Donald Trump in the face of an impeachment inquiry and blistering criticism for pulling out the US forces from the Syria-TSyria-Turkish border.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi came to global game when he publicly announced the creation of the Islamic State caliphate in 2014 and called on all Muslims to show allegiance to him.
