Kighenda and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu drowned in the Indian Ocean after their car fell off from a moving ferry.

According to John Wambua, his wife was an experienced driver who could not afford to make a mistake of reversing the car from the ferry in the middle of the ocean. Wambua added that Kighenda had been driving for 10 years and she was always careful.

“She has been driving for over 10 years, she is a very careful driver…I doubt it was her negligence, you saw the car, it was in parking gear, the handbrake was activated,” Wambua said as quoted by Citizen TV.

John Wambua claimed he was confident that the investigator will confirm that indeed the accident was not as a result of Kighenda's negligence.

Wambua also narrated the last conversation he had with his wife before the tragic accident. He claimed she had asked him for some money to pay for the ferry services.

“She called to ask for money. When heading back home she was short of money since she had paid workers. So I told her where to find money inside the car to pay for crossing using the ferry,” Wambua stated.

The sunken car was retrieved together with the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and Amanda Mutheu on Friday.
