In a tweet on Tuesday, Mr Ali Roba revealed that this was a great achievement amid drought scare in the region.

"Alhamdullillah. Mandera County G has successfully drilled two boreholes in Lulis and Banisa town respectfully. Since Independence Several attempts of drilling Boreholes in Banissa were unsuccessful. This is a big relief for us especially during this ravaging drought season," wrote Ali Roba.

The two boreholes were successful after various failed attempts by the county government which had tried severally to drill a borehole at Banissa in vain.

However, they persistently tried until they drilled one borehole at Banisa and another one at Lulis.

Mandera is one of the most affected counties during the drought seasons.

The area experiences severe shortages of water that leads to starvation among residents.

Most of the water sources dry up in the region. Both wild and domestic animals lack water and therefore die.

The county government had on various occasions appealed to the national government and charity organisation for help during drought seasons.

However, with the two boreholes, the area will be ready for drought seasons, knowing they have permanent sources of water.
