Over 20 families were on Tuesday forcefully evicted from their home in Chabarus, Turbo constituency following a court order.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Joseph Luvusia, one of the victims, said it was sad that their houses were demolished yet they bought the piece of land legally.
“I was shocked when my house worth Sh4 million was brought down and yet I have stayed here for 18 years. It is very unfair to us since, by the time I bought the piece of land, I did not know if it had a case in court,” he said.
“I have now been evicted from my farm, I have nowhere to go, the government should find us alternative places to live because we are now stranded,” he added.
However, Turbo sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Mohamed Mobudzo said the land in question had a dispute and the owner took the case to court since the land had been sold to the victims illegally without his knowledge.
“The affected people were sold the land without any documents showing the ownership of the land," he said.
The case started in 2008 and was determined last year in September when the court ordered their removal.
“We had given them dateline of up to 6 August 2019 to vacate and demolish their houses failure to which the law will take its course and that’s why we are here today,” he added.
