Ong'era opined that teachers should ensure rainwater is harvested and stored for use in their respective schools during this rainy season. "I challenge teachers in all the schools where I have donated 10,000 litres of the water tank to make use of the tanks. I do not wish to see pupils being sent to fetch water from rivers and water springs during class time. The water tanks should be used to store water throughout," she noted as reported by Egesa FM. According to the lawmaker, she is committed to ensuring learners across the county especially in primary schools are not forced to carry water jerrycans to school every morning. She also argued that as a mother, she will not allow learners to be turned into 'slaves' carrying heavy jerrycans instead of carrying books to school.

"Through the National Action Affirmative Fund kitty, I will ensure all public primary and secondary schools get the 10,000 litres water tank," she stated.

So far several schools such as Mokubo, Oroche, Nyamage DOK, Riabamanyi Primary School and Nyabonge Mixed Secondary School among others have received water tanks.
