“Condolences to family and friends of Willy Komen, a former MP and veteran politician. Mzee Komen was a composed, astute leader with a deep understanding of his constituents' needs,” Ruto tweeted.

He also described the role which the late Willy Komen played in shaping the politics and leadership of Kenya.

“He served as MP in three constituencies of the cosmopolitan Nakuru County, a clear testament to his gravitas; impeccable track record, magnetism and true servant leadership. Rest In Peace,” Ruto posted on Twitter.

Komen has been eulogised by many politicians including Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui as an exemplary leader.

The late politician also served as an assistant minister in the Ministry of Labour between 1992 and 1997.

Komen died at the age of 77 while receiving treatment at Nakuru War Memorial Hospital.

The requiem mass of Mzee Willy Komen was held at Our Lady Queen of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rongai, Nakuru County.
