Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos on Thursday engaged workers union and staff representatives from the county, to deliberate on their delayed salary for July.
Speaking after meeting union leaders, Tolgos asked the staff to be patient as his office was engaging other relevant authorities to ensure that the issue is sorted.
"I get your concerns. I know you are facing a lot of challenges but what has been challenging is that we need funds not only for salaries but other issues like development and staff welfare," he said.
"I hope by the end of this week, you will be paid your salaries. I know some of you are facing challenges especially those who service loans but things will be sorted soon", he added.
The representatives led by Kenya National Union of Nurses local branch secretary Patrick Biwott urged the governor to look into a short term measure that will ensure the employees are paid their salary on time.
He said some of the workers cannot commute to work and called for a speedy resolution of the stalemate.
The governor, however, said the delay had been occasioned by failure by the Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA) to release funds to the counties, and an impasse between his office and the County Assembly over budgetary issues.
