NASA leader Raila Odinga has appealed to journalists across the country to ignore threats being issued by politicians.Speaking on Friday night at Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi where he was the Chief Guest during the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA), he said members of the press should not give in to cheap threats. "We celebrate exceptional efforts in media and recognizes media freedom towards the development of the media sector. I urge journalists to continue making notable strides in developing their competency in reporting. Their efforts go towards advancing Kenya’s media sector encouraging progressive unbiased practices in reporting," Raila opined. He wondered why MPs have been issuing threats to journalists for publishing facts in the newspapers."I was shocked a few days ago when MPs ganged up against Nation Media Group following a story which was published exposing MPs who were travelling to USA to attend a training. Members of the press must continue unearthing graft in this country for Kenyans to know the truth," said Raila.Raila maintained that he remains opposed to media intimidation and blackmail and challenged politicians to respect journalists in their endeavour to inform Kenyans.Further, Raila maintained that journalists deserve protection while discharging duties and be given good pay.
