Shock and grief engulfed residents of Gem, Siaya County after a 45-year-old man was stabbed to death by his cousin over a woman.
Gem sub-county police boss Harriet Kinya who confirmed the incident said the 20-year-old student stabbed his cousin identified as Joseph Otieno Nyaeka.
During the Saturday night incident, Kinya said the two cousins were fighting over a woman in Ogolwe village within Yala Township.
Speaking to the media, Kinya said Nyaeka went to the home of the Form Three student seeking answers as to why he was having a love affair with one of their female cousins.
During the 9 pm confrontation, the suspect is said to have grabbed a knife and stabbed his cousin several times.
“The victim was stabbed in the chest and left thigh with a knife,” Kinya said.
The police boss said the suspect has been arrested by the police and is being held at Yala Police Station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
“We are holding the suspect so that he can help with the investigations. He will be arraigned on Monday," she said.
The deceased’s body was taken to Yala Level Four Hospital mortuary as investigations continue
