Former Jubilee party deputy chairman David Murathe has given a clear indication that President Uhuru Kenyatta will exit the country’s political scene after his second term comes to an end in 2022.
There have been claims in certain quarters that the Head of State will not retire in 2022 due to his ‘young age.’
But Murathe, a close ally of President Kenyatta now says that Uhuru will be bigger than Kenyan politics after 2022.
“Uhuru is actually going to be bigger than this Kenyan politics. Uhuru is about East African Integration. Uhuru is about African Integration. Uhuru is by and large getting wide acceptability in terms of his vision for Africa and in terms of his vision for the region.,” he added.
Regarding Uhuru's role in the 2022 election, Murathe opined that the president will offer guidance to those who believe in him.
“He will guide those who believe in him. I doubt that he will openly stand up and say I support so and so,” he said during on interview on K24’s Punch Line show on Sunday night,.
He was, however, quick to point out that Kenyans will decide if they want the President to have a role in the next government with or without constitutional amendments.
