Heart failure occurs when the muscles in your heart fail to pump blood well.
This is usually caused by narrowed arteries which increase your blood pressure.
Extreme blood pressure leaves your heart too weak to pump blood. So how would you know your heart is failing?
Here are warning 3 signs;
A failing heart often manifests through shortness of breath. This can happen when you are doing light or strenuous exercise, while resting or sleeping and comes suddenly.
Due to the shortness of breath, one becomes fatigued and always feeling tired.
2. Rapid or too slow/irregular heart rate
A failing heart can pump faster to make up for the loss in pumping capacity. It races to pump just so it can cover up the less oxygen supply around the body and this happens even when you are having a rest. Additionally, the heart can pump very slowly due to weakness.
3. Edema
Edema is a condition where the body swells especially in the joints. A common one is swelling of the ankle. What causes this swelling?
It is because a lot of fluids build up in these areas since the heart is too weak to pump them around the body. These excess fluids can cause weight gain.
