Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has defied Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi’s choice for the Kibra by-election.
On Sunday, Malala joined ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga to campaign for his candidate Imran Okoth against ANC candidate Eliud Owalo.
The Senator elected on an ANC ticket in 2017 confirmed that he had made the decision for the sake of the people of Kibra.
He exuded confidence that Imran is the ideal candidate for the post if elected. He reminded voters from the constituency not to be lured with money to back candidates who will not deliver.
“I am the senior-most ANC-elected leader and I want to say here that ANC supports Imran Okoth. If you see anybody in an ANC T-shirt purporting to be campaigning for Owalo, that is an impostor,” Malala said, as quoted by Standard.
On his part, Raila asked the residents not to vote for an outsider who doesn’t understand their problems.
He said that Imran is the best bet for the seat.
“Those others asking for votes here are strangers. An outsider cannot address the challenges facing Kibra people,” the ODM leader said.
Others who were present during the event include Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna former Cabinet Minister Fred Gumo, Shinyalu Gertrude Musurive, a nominated senator, MPs George Aladwa (Makadara) and Justus Kizito.
