Police in Kisii on Monday evening raided a betting academy in Nyangena in Kisii town.
The academy is used for the assembling of betting machines before distribution to various destinations.
According to a business licence issued by the County Government of Kisii, Peginja investment owned by Joseph Mathenge, a Kenyan, indicates that the accompany offers large computer repair services with a yearly subscription of Sh7,000.
Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet in a phone interview said they recovered 18 fully assembled betting machines, a number of motherboards and coins worth Sh100,000.
"Yes, the police raided the place and nabbed 18 machines, spare parts and over Sh100,000 which were in a wooden box," said Kibet.
Books of records seen by Hivisasa revealed that the business might have been fully in operation since 2017 with various departments.
Three suspects arrested from the premises are in custody as police launch in depth investigations on the illegal business.
"Three suspects were arrested. Two females and a male adult from the premises. They are in custody at Kisii Central Police station. We will crack down the machines until we make sure the business has been buried in Kisii," noted the police boss.
A source at the facility who requested anonymity said that Traffic Police and a number of senior Police officers were in the payroll list.
The source further said the machines are assembled and given to traders across the county and its environs in return for a 20 per cent commission every evening.
