Police officers on Thursday evening arrested eleven women and one man in posh Nyali Estate, Mombasa County for allegedly engaging in shooting, streaming and sharing pornography movies on social media.
The suspects were taken to Nyali Police Station before they arraigned in court this Friday where they were charged with trafficking an obscene publication by producing and streaming pornographic videos through social media.
Charges against the girls as reported by Nairobi News read “for purpose of trade, conveyed obscene publication namely transmission of pornographic video streaming intended to corrupt morals”.
However, appearing before Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Florence Macharia, the girls denied any involvement in the offence.
The suspects are:
Merceline Atieno Onyango, she is the woman who is said to be one of the owners/administrators of Chat Bate, a website for streaming pornography in conjunction with other international adults' sites, webcam.
Police said she should be denied bond because being an administrator of the website, she might pull down uploaded videos thus destroying evidence that will be used against her.
“She has the passwords to the website, we are apprehensive that when released, she might delete the contents, which is a key evidence in this case,” the prosecutor said as reported by Nairobi News.
Girls working for Ms Atieno were:
Mariam Hamza,
Dolly Kanana,
Luareen Achieng,
Salma Makeri,
Knight Aluoch,
Feith Mbesa,
Diana Wairimu,
Anita Mburu,
Christine Mueni, and the man was Enock Elisha.
Said committed offence happened at a Simba Estate in Nyali, Mombasa on June 10.
Court will be ruling on the case on July 16.
