Once feared as one of the most organised team that could deliver first Deputy President William Ruto in Gusii, a group of Tanga Tanga team is now slowly losing steam.

It first started by exit of Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi before Borabu MP Ben Momanyi left for pro-handshake team.

Last month, two high profile lesders; Jimmy Angwenyi and Samuel Arama, officially joined the Handshake team further complicating matters for Dr Ruto.

At first, the team had gathered momentum, only for the fortunes to dwindle when Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i started popularising the Handshake.

"Even if it means me alone, I will stand with DP William Ruto. He is a performer and has proved his capabilities. Stop cheating yourselves that Raila will support you," South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro once said.

Besides him, MPs Shadrack Mose, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Nyamoko, Alfa Miruka, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, have all slowed down activities.

In an interview, Mr Momanyi conceded that the team had no future due to absence of a political ideology that they all stand for.

"I think they never had a clear plan. Then, it's had to counter Matiang'i given his development record. They may eventually disintegrate and join handshake," he said.

ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire insists that Gusii region remains the party's stronghold, adding that Dr Ruto is a stranger to the region.

"The people know his misdeeds. He has been launching non existing projects. Those supporting him still will eventually leave. It's not going to be long before that," he says.

Unlike in the past months, the team is rarely seen sharing podiums in social functions, a prove that its activities have considerably slowed down.

For the handshake team, they have been holding meetings with the latest being at Capitol Hill in Nairobi last week, where they met ODM leader Raila Odinga.
