ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga on Saturday ordered the end of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally at Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa prematurely after sensing the tension.
Nominated MP Maina Kamanda had the microphone in his hand when Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho announced that the rally had ended.
Those who were in attendance were left in shock when the security detail escorted Raila out of the dais.
DP William Ruto's allies were not comfortable with the programme with the likes of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria attempting to find a chance to address the crowd.
Tensions started mounting after Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny mocked Ruto's allies for calling Raila Baba.
“All the speakers affiliated to that [Ruto’s] camp, today are all referring to Raila Odinga as Baba, Baba. Reality has dawned on them that the political wave and goodwill is with Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta. See now, they couldn’t help, but join us,” said Kutuny, as quoted by K24.
Earlier on, a crowd had attempted to block Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Malindi's Aisha Jumwa from reacting the dais.
DP Ruto's camp has faulted Kuttuny over his remarks during the rally.
