In an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, the senator said that the proposals by the former presidential candidate make sense but they are not meant for the current state of affairs in Kenya.

He said that Aukot has not been objective in the push for a referendum, adding that the proposals need to be reconsidered.

“Punguza Mizigo is crafted in a way which is utopian; that is not Kenya…we have to be realistic. I do, however, agree that we need change because of the divisiveness in this country,” he said.

On the Division of Revenue Bill stalemate, Ledama urged both Senate and National Assembly to embrace dialogue for the sake of ending the financial crisis at the counties.

He also said that the standoff between the two Houses has affected the county governments negatively, adding that the leaders opposed to government budgets are ill-motivated.

“In future, we may need to consider coming up with several appropriation Acts so as to stop this total government shutdown. As at now, county governments may not be able to work,” he added.
