After a hard-fought barren draw against Burundian side Aigle Noir in the first leg, Gor Mahia won 5-1 on aggregate at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday afternoon to earn a spot in the second qualification round of the CAF Champions league.
The fans were in full voice as K'Ogalo cruised past the visitors, and more so from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who was seen throwing his hat in the air after the third goal in the private VIP area of the stadium.
Raila is a fan of the club and the players and showed his enthusiasm and sportsmanship by taking to social media to express his feelings by congratulating the team for an exciting match.
Posting on his Twitter handle account alongside a photo of himself, Raila wrote; “Capped off the weekend by joining fans at Kasarani to watch as Gor Mahia cruised to an emphatic 5-1 win over Aigle Noir of Burundi to earn themselves a slot in the next round of the #TotalCAFCL Congratulations to both teams for the entertaining encounter.”
Of course, Raila was not the only notable figure who was seen in the stands with the match bringing Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Nick Mwendwa to the pitch, who was criticized for not attending local football matches.
